Rebecca Casati (* 1970 in Hamburg ) is a German journalist , author and publisher's editor .

Life

Casati began her journalistic career with Jetzt magazine. She then worked as an editor for SZ-Magazin and for the weekend supplement of the Süddeutsche Zeitung . Her only novel Hey Hey Hey , published in 2001, is classified as pop literature. For the book she received an advance of around 150,000 DM, which is unusual for a debutante. In 2005, a quote from the novel became the subject of a conflict between her partner Frank Schirrmacher and the editorial team of Welt am Sonntag : A special supplement to the Frankfurt Book Fair contained one Text about Schirrmacher, who put a quote from her male fictional character ("I'll fuck my way through the alphabet") in Casati's mouth. The edition was withdrawn from circulation after Schirrmacher's intervention.

In 2007 Casati moved to the cultural department of Spiegel , and in 2008 back to the Süddeutsche Zeitung . In 2013 she held the position of Director Features at the women's magazine Harper's Bazar . Since mid-2015 she has been program manager for autobiographical non-fiction at Suhrkamp Verlag . Casati is the chairwoman of the Frank Schirrmacher Foundation .

Casati is one of the initiators of the Charter of Fundamental Digital Rights of the European Union , which was published at the end of November 2016.

She was married to Frank Schirrmacher until his death in 2014. Your main residence is Potsdam .
