Leanne Shapton

Leanne Shapton (born June 25, 1973 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian writer, publicist and artist who lives in New York City . Her main focus is clothing fashion .

Life

Shapton's mother is from the Philippines and her father is Canadian.

In Canada she worked for magazines such as Saturday Night and Maclean’s and the National Post newspaper. She directs the beautifully appointed book publisher J&L Books , Atlanta Georgia , which she founded with Jason Fulford in 2001. For her book Was She Pretty? In 2007 she received the Canadian "Dough Wright Award".

Since 2009 she has been art director for the New York Times . Shapton published there counter- editorials (op-eds). She also works as an illustrator and publisher of graphic novels .

Her book Important objects and personal belongings from the collection of Leonore Doolan and Harold Morris, including books, fashion and jewelry. is presented like an auction catalog . A fictional auction house depicts and describes around 300 items; they document the course of the roughly four-year relationship between the fictional characters Lenore and Harold. There is an option for the book to be made into a film by the production company Plan B Entertainment with Brad Pitt and Natalie Portman .

The autobiographical reflection book Swimming studies , under the title 2012 Suhrkamp Verlag pull tracks brought out, represents the youth Shaptons as an oriented to Olympic qualifying championships professional swimmer, from many angles. The marked by ambition and discipline full-time project led to at the age of 18 she withdrew completely from her career as a competitive athlete. Nevertheless, her biographical imprint still has the consequence that she pays attention to the local swimming pools on almost every trip, capturing them in drawings.

Shapton lives in Greenwich Village .
