Rainer Erlinger (* 1965 in Deggendorf ) is a German doctor , lawyer , columnist and author .

Life

After graduating from high school, Erlinger first studied law , but interrupted it to begin studying medicine ; he was approved in 1992. After studying in Munich, he first worked in research, then worked for a year in an emergency room before continuing and finishing his law degree.

In 1995 Erlinger stopped working as a doctor in order to be able to prepare more intensively for his first state examination in law. He has been working as a lawyer in Munich since 1999, specializing in medical law . He received his doctorate in the disciplines of human medicine and law.

Erlinger became known through the weekly column The Question of Conscience , which he wrote for the Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin from 2002 to 2018 . Here he answered questions from readers who see themselves in a moral conflict. Since 2005, five books have emerged from the column.

In 2006 he hosted the program right living ?! on WDR television . Here he discussed everyday moral issues with guests.

Together with columnist Harald Martenstein ( Die Zeit ), Erlinger appeared regularly in the Berlin Deutsches Theater in 2008 and 2009 . In their moral show , both discussed everyday moral issues and put them to the public for a vote.

In the 2008/2009 winter semester, Rainer Erlinger was a visiting professor at the philosophical and social science faculty of the University of Augsburg . The lectures appeared as a book under the title Reflecting on Morals .

Erlinger lives and works in Berlin.
