Lothringer13 hall

The Lothringer13 hall, room for international contemporary art, is a cultural institution of the cultural department of the state capital Munich. It pursues the concept of offering young artists a production and presentation environment in order to establish their positions in the national and international art world, as well as to enter into discourse with the Munich art scene and its numerous institutions for contemporary art. As part of an artistic network, Lothringer13 Halle would like to reflect and improve the production conditions and areas of interest of young artists through exhibitions, publications and events. The Lothringer13 Halle is 100% non-profit and entry to all events is free. It is financed by grants from the City of Munich as well as project-related funds and donations. The Lothringer13 Halle has been curated by Dana Weschke and Jörg Koopmann since 2014 . Today the Lothringer13 hall consists of a large main hall with around 800 square meters of exhibition space and a smaller exhibition space on the first floor.

Lothringer13 Rroom

Since 2014, the Lothringer13 Rroom has been located on Lothringer Straße as a spatial and content-related extension of the hall. Books and magazines are exhibited here, as well as artistic and art-related publications from even the smallest publishers, which thematically complement the exhibition in the hall. Lothringer13 Rroom was designed in 2014 by Munich-based designers Charlotte Talbot and Jonathan Mauloubier. The "Rroomonday" with activities, lectures and screenings takes place here several times a month.

Lothringer13_Florida

Located on the street side was the lothringer13_laden , a project room that has been used as a space for media experiments since the restructuring in 2000. In 2014 lothringer13_laden was renamed Lothringer13_Florida. A multi-person, interdisciplinary team organizes Lothringer13_Florida as a platform for discourse, young art, interdisciplinary art projects and media experiments.

On the history of the Lorraine institution13

In 1980, Lothringer13 was founded in a former machine factory at Lothringer Straße 13 under the name "Künstlerwerkstatt". As a center for young contemporary art, more than 200 exhibitions (e.g. Rundschau Deutschland , 1981) by over 1000 artists (including Louise Lawler , Fischli / Weiss , Albert Oehlen , Erwin Wurm , Per Kirkeby , Gregor Schneider , Manfred Pernice) took place here , Bjørn Melhus , Annika Larsson , Lara Schnitger , Fritz Fortuna , Claudia Wieser and Lucy Orta ). From 1980 to 1998, exhibitions of contemporary art in all genres were organized by artists, guest curators and members of the cultural department of the City of Munich. In 1998, the state capital of Munich decided on a program concept with changing, independent curators who were to develop exhibitions in the Städtische Kunsthalle for a time frame of two years each. From 1997 to 2010 part of the Lothringer13 main building contained a video and art archive called Spiegel. The media archive was organized by Mattias von Tesmar. From 2006 to 2010 the Lothringer13 hall was curated by Uli Aigner , from 2011 to 2014 by Felix Ruhöfer. With the book publication "Made! Done!" A comprehensive chronicle of Uli Aigner's time was published in 2015.
