The Lothringer13 / laden is an institution of the cultural department of the state capital Munich . It is an autonomous part of the Lothringer13 art and culture complex .

history

Lothringer13 / laden was launched in 2000 by Julian Nida-Rümelin . Since then it has established itself nationwide as a platform for media art . The focus is on an interdisciplinary supporting program. The art historian Wolfgang Ullrich describes the Lothringer13 / laden practice of including non-art people and their activities in the framework program of the exhibitions as a “social readymade”. The actual exhibition becomes a platform for a wide variety of activities and events. The fact that the usual conventions of the art business are often questioned and undermined in the process brings ambivalent reviews to the room. While online forums and the “media scene” praise this approach frenetically, it is viewed with skepticism or even rejected by conventional critics.

Exhibitions and events

Around five exhibitions take place every year. There are up to 50 events per year both in and independently of the supporting program. Examples are monochrome and Heinrich Gartentor as artists or groups of artists . An ironic Bob Ross painting course or a demonstration for the IT industry through the Munich district of Haidhausen were held as events.

In addition to the exhibition and event room, there is also the apollo13 project niche . Young, not yet established artists in particular can present their approaches to work in the shop window.

Residency

Since 2006 there has been a residency grant from the Domagkateliers in cooperation with DOKU eV : DoLoRes. International artists are given the opportunity to live and work in Munich free of charge for around two months and to exhibit in the Lothringer13 / shop.

Curation

Lothringer13 / laden is curated by a group of cultural workers that is constantly changing step by step. Patrick Gruban, Angela Dorrer and Klara Hobza initiated this process in 2000. The team currently consists of Christian Hartard (art historian and artist), Yvonne Leinfelder (artist), Heidi Mühlschlegel (artist), Carmen Runge (artist) and Verena Seibt (artist ). In contrast to the conventional art business, this board of trustees actively participates in the design of the program, so it intervenes partly artistically.

Until 2005 the group of curators was also known under the name “program angels”.
