Travel around the world with Google Street View : Dworsky transforms the adventures of his virtual journeys into lectures and slide shows

Alexis Dworsky (born May 14, 1976 in Freising ) is a German conceptual artist and cultural scientist. He conducts artistic research and combines practical with theoretical approaches:

“He (re) constructed a dinosaur from a roast hare and wrote a doctoral thesis on it; in Google Street View he drives around the world and gives travel lectures about it. Dworsky translates graffiti for the blind and builds a fitness trail in the middle of the city. "

biography

Dworsky first studied landscape architecture at the Technical University of Munich, then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . Dworsky received his doctorate in 2011 from Bazon Brock in Aesthetics at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal on the cultural history of the dinosaur . From 2001 to 2007 Dworsky was curator at Lothringer13 / laden . From 2012 to 2018 he was an artistic assistant in the Res Ingold class at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.

Dworsky works as a freelance artist , cultural scientist and curator .

Public space and new media

In particular, Dworsky works in and about public space . He understands this both as a field of experimentation and communication platform, as well as the subject matter of his investigations. A special feature of his approach is to see the digital media space as a public free space: "The virtual world is becoming more and more intertwined with the physical one, and in it it is important to intervene artistically and to question it through contemporary art," says Dworsky.

Curation and research

The boundary between art, research and curation is becoming increasingly blurred in Dworsky's work, for example because he also shows works by other artists at exhibitions or invites them to actions and lectures, researches the background, writes scientific texts about them and publishes them.
