Anna and Elisabeth is a German film drama from 1933 with the main actors Dorothea Wieck , Hertha Thiele and Mathias Wieman . The film brought Wieck and Thiele back to the screen together, who had already shot girls in uniform two years earlier.

Summary

Elisabeth, a wealthy young aristocrat who sits in a wheelchair, hears about the young peasant girl Anna, who is apparently able to work miracles. She makes Anna live with her and appears cured because she believes in Anna's healing powers. An attempt to publicly prove Anna's healing powers fails. Desperate, Elisabeth throws herself off a cliff and Anna returns to her simple village life.

Reactions

After the US edition came out, the film was featured in the New York Times . Wieck's acting performance was highly praised. Thiele's portrayed as less impressive.

Because of this film, the director Frank Wisbar came into conflict with cultural functionaries of the National Socialists , as this film allegedly offended the “ healthy public feeling ”.
