occupation

It is a German feature film by Rolf Thiele from 1954 based on the novel "Céline" (German title: "Sie") by Gábor von Vaszary from 1952.

action

It is the story of the young Hungarian draftsman Ypsilon, who lives in Paris and has just separated from his girlfriend Louise, who cheated on him. In this situation he meets the even younger Celine. The 17-year-old, who worked for her father's newspaper publisher, had already been introduced to him several times, but he no longer knew. Celine was of the opinion that she could do very well without a Ypsilon, which in her opinion should be reason enough for the two to marry. Of course she was still far too young to get married properly, but they kneeled in front of the altar in Notre Dame and were of the opinion that they no longer needed a pastor. The civil wedding could wait another four years. They lived in a romantic apartment in a backyard and their first entry in the household book was: "On the first day of our marriage we had no expenses - Madame Celine".

As in all marriages, there were good days and less good days. The friends Ypsilons Semmelhans and Joska were witnesses to this. The two were also very much in love, one with Monika and the other with his camera. Ypsilon sewed a dress for Celine with such a daring neckline that she could only wear it at home. When burglars were cleaning out her apartment, he gave her two handkerchiefs and she made them into panties. Then Ypsilon fell in love with the dramatic Italian Din, who bullyed everyone, including her father and her dog. The result was the last sentence in Celine's household book: “On the last day of our marriage we had no expenses”.

Ypsilon noticed after not too long that he loved Celine after all and the way to the registry office was clear.

production

The film was produced in the Göttingen studio. The locations for the outdoor shots were in Göttingen, Osterode and Paris. At the same time, producer Hans Abich took over the production management. The lyrics for “Das kleine Wort Salut” and “Ein Walzer für Zwei” were written by Fritz Graßhoff . The composer for the title “The veil fell from my eyes” was written by Joseph Kosma . The music contributions were made by Helmut Zacharias and the Polydor orchestra. “ She ” was shot in black and white and had its premiere on September 9, 1954 in the Theater am Kröpcke in Hanover. The film was first broadcast on television on November 20, 1993 on RTL II .

criticism

The lexicon of international film certifies the film smooth comedy effects, an excess of sentimentality and a pinch of eroticism. These do not do justice to the atmosphere of the underlying little love novel by Gabor von Vaszary.
