Gábor from Vaszary

Gábor von Vaszary (born July 1, 1897 in Budapest , Austria-Hungary , † May 22, 1985 in Lugano , Switzerland ) was a Hungarian writer and screenwriter . Among other things, he worked as an illustrator, fashion draftsman, poster and portrait painter. At times he worked as a journalist and wrote children's books.

Life

Vaszary first graduated from high school and then attended the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1924 he went to Paris to study , from which he only returned to Hungary in 1932. In 1947 he emigrated to Switzerland and later worked for Radio Free Europe .

His novel Monpti was published in 1934. Inspired by the author's impressions during his stay in Paris, it depicts the love story of the first-person narrator with a Parisian typist with bitter humor . In 1957 Helmut Käutner made the film Monpti with Horst Buchholz and Romy Schneider as a romantic couple .
