action

The computer engineer Dr. Alexander is in a hurry to get home from work because the roast duck in his automated oven will be ready punctually at half past seven. When he is stuck in a traffic jam and stopped, he simply takes a shortcut across a freight yard. A traveling circus is currently guesting there, and Dr. Alexander's car is wrecked by one of the circus elephants. He continues driving, but is stopped shortly afterwards by the police and asked to explain the damage to his vehicle. Since he does not want to reveal the way across the train station for fear of a fine, he simply tells the police that he has collided with an elephant. This statement, together with his statement that he had to go home urgently, because the duck rang at half past seven , made the police question his mental state. They want to do an alcohol check, which Dr. Alexander refused. He is taken to the police station, where he refuses any further tests and repeats his statements. He is immobilized by a police doctor and taken to a mental hospital. There he first tries to get free by telling the truth; but only when he actually begins to act like a madman does the matter move. In the end, he is acquitted by a judge he met in the institution. Because he plays “crazy” several times a year in order to be able to read in peace for a few days in the clinic.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films writes: “Elaborate parody with lots of platitudes and indecentities, played to a great extent by Heinz Rühmann.” Even the Protestant film observer doesn't think much of the film, but praises the main actor: “Very disappointing. But nothing else could be expected from the sex-obsessed Rolf Thiele. Unfortunately, however, the allusion of the good main actor, which is too serious, against the director's tiresome trend, which has meanwhile been practiced ad nauseam, forms a stylistic break. For adults (without any recommendation). "
