action

Accompanied by his fiancé Janine, the British star police officer Tim Frazer arrives at Antwerp airport. Meanwhile, a murder takes place not far from here: a man is stabbed on the back with a stiletto. The victim, a dock worker, is part of a sinister series of murders. The Belgian inspector Stoffels called on Frazer to help him solve this case. There is a period of exactly ten days between each murder. Obviously, all of the victims come from a ship that docks in port each time. A first lead leads to a certain Jack van Druten, a notorious cardsharp. His fingerprints were on the murder weapon. But van Druten has an alibi. Frazer finds out that all of the victims have had too much money lately. Obviously, these people owe their sudden wealth to the marijuana trade .

Lode van Dijk, the brother of the last victim, offers himself to the police as a decoy. During a crime scene inspection of Frazer in the harbor, a little crook tries to murder him. The Englishman overwhelms him. Before the gangster can divulge information about his client, he is shot from a distance by an unknown person. After the attempt to use Lode as a decoy had no effect, Stoffels and Frazer went to two relevant bars. But neither the barmaid Farida nor her colleague Rosalie can or want to help. Frazer's questioning of an Anatolian consul from whose country the marijuana came to Antwerp does not help the Englishman either. During a visit to the bar, Frazer has to watch the consul being murdered from an ambush. Frazer decides to smuggle his girlfriend Janine into Rosalie's bar to get information about her. Meanwhile, a tall man in sunglasses, who has already seen Frazer's arrival at the airport, has attached an explosive device to his rental car. However, Frazer managed to avoid this attack through a warning hidden in a newspaper. He detonates the bomb remotely.

When Janine tries to give Frazer important information over the phone from Farida's bar, she is overwhelmed from behind. At the same time, Lode van Dijk pursues Jeroom, Rosalie's partner, from the bar to the harbor, but is prevented from further pursuit by some dock workers. When Lode tells them that Jeroom is the man they've been looking for for months, the port buddies help him. In the dramatic pursuit to the top of a drawbridge, the armed Jeroom crashes. A little later, Rosalie is found dead in her bar.

Meanwhile, Farida takes on Janine and tries to get information out of her with blows. Janine lies tied to a chair on the floor without a chance to break free. A stranger attaches an explosive device to the door handle of the closet where Janine is lying. When Frazer gets there, his impetuous behavior almost causes the death of his fiancée. But Stoffels sees the explosive device through a window and thus prevents the worst. Janine is released. A shootout breaks out between the police and the gangsters. Frazer chases the gang's head, Mister X, through a long tunnel. With an aimed shot, he finally kills him. Stoffels joins them, they both go to the great stranger and unmask him: it is Farida.

Reviews

The Hamburger Abendblatt particularly praised the actors who “brought a lot of color into the crime film, which was neatly and imaginatively staged by Ernst Hofbauer and sometimes foolishly photographed by Raimund Herold”.

Paimann's film lists described the story as "thematically conventional, but suitable for film [...] prepared and cast".

The lexicon of international films , however, noted: "A tired crime thriller that tries to profit from the screen success of the title hero."

In “Francis Durbridge Homepage: Films” you can read: “Although this film is miles better than the German film“ Piccadilly 12 o'clock ”, it does not have any peculiarities that are typical of Durbridge. You could say: this film has 100% nothing to do with the master of the finely dosed tension. Night bars, mass murders, foggy docks, shootings and car chases as well as a song J'ai peché (I sinned) performed by a bar girl clearly fit the Edgar Wallace series, which was so popular at the time. "

The online presence of Cinema also stated: "Cheap ride on the Edgar Wallace wave"
