Ernst Hofbauer (born August 22, 1925 in Vienna , † February 24, 1984 in Munich ) was an Austrian film director and screenwriter who worked in Germany.

Life

After his release from captivity, Hofbauer attended the Max Reinhardt seminar in Vienna, but also studied dentistry for two semesters. In the 1950s he was involved in numerous feature films as an assistant director . Hofbauer lived in Munich from the beginning of the 1960s and in 1961 became the director of the reality format taken over from Great Britain . with Chris Howland . In 1969 he directed the first 26 episodes (seasons 1 and 2) of the ZDF series Percy Stuart .

From 1964 to 1983 Hofbauer worked as a director in more than 30 films. He began with crime novels and adventure films, but the vast majority of his films can be assigned to the erotic or "soft porn" genre: When the plump boobs bounce and the pseudo-documentary series Schoolgirl Report , which he directed in 9 of 13 parts. Sometimes he made several films a year.

Hofbauer preferred to recruit young, inexperienced actresses or actors with soft porn history. The plot was banal. However, Hofbauer's stripes stood out from many other low-cost German productions of the time because of their craftsmanship.

The public response at the time and the success of his works are remarkable. According to a book report by Günther Hunold , the schoolgirl reports were often declared an educational film series. Public interest in sexuality was extremely high in the 1960s and early 1970s, and the films represented a kind of taboo break. In the mid-1970s, interest decreased significantly, mainly because hardcore pornography was legalized in the Federal Republic of Germany in 1975. Hofbauer, however, had a long negative attitude towards this genre. It was not until 1983 that he shot Rasputin - Orgies at the Zarenhof, his first and only hardcore porno, which was also released in a soft version.

In addition to amateurs, some of his films also featured actors who later gained greater fame, including Sascha Hehn , Andrea L'Arronge , Heiner Lauterbach and Jutta Speidel . Hofbauer later regretted that the schoolgirl report nimbus was very attached to him. After the sex wave subsided , he staged a few more Eastern .

He was buried in the north cemetery in Munich .
