Hans Zehetner (production designer)

Hans Zehetner (born May 10, 1914 in Vienna ; † May 20, 1973 there ) was an Austrian production designer .

Live and act

Zehetner trained as a stage painter and initially worked for Viennese theaters. In 1938 he went to Berlin as a commercial painter for the UFA . From 1939 to 1945 he participated in the war.

From 1947 he worked as a decorative painter for the Pabst- Kiba -Film in Vienna and painted, among other things, the Tisza landscape for GW Pabst's The Trial . Responsible for the first time as a production designer in 1949, in the 1950s and 1960s Zehetner created the backdrops primarily for homeland films, comedies and revue films. He was also responsible for the design of the Brecht film, Mr. Puntila and his servant Matti .
