action

Junks at a pier on Ko Samet

The German divorce lawyer Maria Berger, practicing in Bangkok , is surprised by her sister Clara’s plans to marry. Her future husband Lin is a Thai singer and musician. Although they have only known each other for a few weeks, they are determined to get married. The couple want to run a holiday resort on an island in Rayong Province .

Maria is initially not enthusiastic about her sister's upcoming wedding to a poor Thai musician, but then decides to visit her sister and help her with the wedding preparations. The celebration is to take place in a rented resort on the coast. A little incident occurs at the wedding: Clara becomes dizzy and falls to the floor. She says she “stumbled”.

After the festivities, the mother of the two sisters - a famous actress - makes Lin an interesting offer: he can immediately start a job in Singapore as a studio musician . The catch: Lin has to start the job the next day. Lin enthusiastically agrees and flies straight from his honeymoon in the Maldives to Singapore, while his wife Clara flies back to Bangkok.

When Clara arrives at Bangkok Airport, she feels disoriented; she calls her sister Maria and sounds very desperate on the phone. Full of worry, Maria picks her up from the airport and drives her straight to the hospital. There she is diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. The doctors prescribe radiation and chemotherapy for Clara. But her sister does not give up the fight and insists on an operation. Single Maria gets help from her friend Martin Wagner, whom she recently met on a junk . He recommends a famous Beijing professor who can perform the difficult operation.

Martin used to be a radiologist himself , but gave up his job because he couldn't cure his wife, who was dying of cancer. He also assisted her in euthanasia, which she had asked him to do. But Martin hides all of this from Maria. When Maria visits a specialist, she sees Martin in a photo together with the surgeon. She learns that Martin used to be a sought-after radiologist at this clinic.

Maria drives the X-rays to Martin and asks him to help Clara. However, he initially refuses, as he has already returned his license to practice medicine . Out of love for Maria, he later decides to go back to the clinic and provide advice and support to the surgeon practicing there - his former mentor - and the Beijing professor who is supposed to perform the operation on Clara.

In the end, thanks to Martin Wagner's expertise as a radiologist, the difficult operation succeeds, and Clara is cured.

Reviews

“Every picture idea is a cliché, a linguistically simple script and full, self-sufficient acting - how should our hearts open? Nobody expects film art à la Sirk , Fassbinder or Ophüls here . But a little passion and dedication ... Conclusion: Stiff kitsch attack, artless and discouraged. "

"Sentimental melodrama staged against the exotic backdrop of Bangkok, which unconditionally follows the rules of undemanding television entertainment."
