action

Marie Mechlenburg, who once gave up her art studies for her husband and their children, finally wants to realize herself. The children have grown up, and her husband Dietrich has little time for them as a management consultant. Marie finally starts painting again and hopes to be able to exhibit her pictures. However, the gallery owner Dorit Martens rejects them. Marie's friend Anna and the sculptor Gerd encourage her to stick to their plans and look for a lover to bring new life to life. Marie finally meets the ENT doctor and art collector Eugen, who promptly invites her to dinner together. But first Marie and Dietrich are invited to a barbecue on the occasion of Anna's birthday. Anna's husband Udo is Dietrich's colleague. When it comes to starting the grill, the men get into an argument as usual. Marie goes out to eat with Eugen shortly afterwards. He hopes to spend a weekend with her in the Alps . However, Marie first wants to devote herself to painting again. She rents an old warehouse and converts it into a studio.

While Dietrich, Udo and other colleagues take part in an outdoor training session , Marie drives to the Alps with Eugen. She is not averse to an affair. But when Eugene urges her to take a shower after a hike, because he would not otherwise find her attractive, Marie loses her pleasure. The next morning she leaves the hotel without him. In a bar, Marie meets Kevin, a younger art connoisseur whom Gerd had already introduced to her. She feels very drawn to him, especially since she and Dietrich are growing apart. Because she thinks that Dietrich doesn't think much of her pictures, one evening she goes into the garden and burns her painted works. Kevin appears and talks to her. They get closer and eventually sleep together.

Meanwhile, Dietrich finds a video that Eugen Marie had sent to invite her to the Alps. After confronting Marie with her adultery and also criticizing Gerd, Marie throws herself into work and paints new pictures. Through Kevin she meets the gallery owner Dorit Martens again, who then decides to exhibit her pictures. Kevin is still interested in Marie, but she advises him to return to his actual girlfriend. Dietrich also appears at Marie's first vernissage . He shows himself proud of his wife and lets her show him the pictures. They hold hands while doing this.
