action

Carole Schneider is a beautiful woman and she has no shortage of money, but she is dissatisfied with her life. She tries with all her might to attract the attention of those around her, but she doesn't even manage to do this with her lover Alexander. So she calls into the void of this world, kill me! out. But their provocations usually end in nothing, just like their everyday life. Only when she unjustifiably suspects and even accuses people of terrorism is she admitted to a mental hospital. There she expands her own fantasies with the delusions of other inmates. Soon she can no longer distinguish between reality and madness . She decides to stay in the institution forever. But she is released as healthy. At the mercy of life again in reality, she commits suicide .

Reviews

  • Lexicon of international film : Schroeter leaves the level of realistic or socially critical study and shows the breakpoints between utopia and reality, self-determination and adaptation in operatically stylized picture and figure arrangements. Too often he slips into mannered theatrics and presents a clichéd madhouse "reality" full of exhibitionism for its own sake .

Awards

For his stylistically interesting directorial work, Werner Schroeter received the German Film Prize in Gold in 1982 in the Best Director category.
