Altar by Klaus Simon in the Namen-Jesu-Kirche

The thick oak is a natural monument in the Kottenforst in Bonn .

In 1993, the then Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Forests Jochen Borchert took on a tree sponsorship initiated by the Board of Trustees for old, lovable trees in Germany .

The tree, which was around 300 years old at the time, fell over under the load of snow in December 2010 and was jacked up in 2011 so that the wood would not rot so quickly and the oak could thus be preserved as a natural monument for longer. The oak is located on the “Communicationsweg” between Röttgen and Villiprott.

The sculptor Klaus Simon shaped part of the tree into an altar and other sacred objects ( principles ) for the Namen-Jesu-Kirche in Bonn.
