Karl-Hans Laermann (born December 26, 1929 in Kaulhausen , Erkelenz district) is a German politician ( FDP ) and university professor.

In 1994 he was Federal Minister for Education and Science .

education and profession

After graduating from college in 1950 graduated Laermann a study of civil engineering at the RWTH Aachen , which he as 1955 Diploma - Engineering ended. He then initially worked for various construction companies. In 1963 he received his doctorate as Dr.-Ing. with the thesis contribution to the theory of the statics of frame and grate structures as well as the preparation of the programs for electronic calculations and finally in 1966 his habilitation with the thesis stress- optical methods for solving elasticity-theoretical problems in construction . Laermann has been a member of the FDP since 1968 . From 1981 to 1994 he was chairman of the Federal Committee for Research and Technology of the FDP.

From 1974 to 1998 Laermann was a member of the German Bundestag . From 1977 to 1994 he was Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Research, Technology and Technology Assessment.

Public offices

On February 4, 1994, Laermann was appointed Federal Minister for Education and Science as the successor to the resigned Rainer Ortleb .
