Karl-Hans Laermann
Karl-Hans Laermann (born December 26, 1929 in Kaulhausen , Erkelenz district) is a German politician ( FDP ) and university professor.
In 1994 he was Federal Minister for Education and Science .
education and profession
After graduating from college in 1950 graduated Laermann a study of civil engineering at the RWTH Aachen , which he as 1955 Diploma - Engineering ended. He then initially worked for various construction companies. In 1963 he received his doctorate as Dr.-Ing. with the thesis contribution to the theory of the statics of frame and grate structures as well as the preparation of the programs for electronic calculations and finally in 1966 his habilitation with the thesis stress- optical methods for solving elasticity-theoretical problems in construction . He then worked as a lecturer in experimental statics at the Rheinisch-Westfälische TH Aachen. In 1971 he was appointed Scientific Councilor and Professor in Aachen. In 1974 he accepted the call of the Bergische Universität Wuppertal as a full professor for structural engineering in the D department - civil engineering .
Political party
Laermann has been a member of the FDP since 1968 . From 1981 to 1994 he was chairman of the Federal Committee for Research and Technology of the FDP.

From 1974 to 1998 Laermann was a member of the German Bundestag . From 1977 to 1994 he was Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Research, Technology and Technology Assessment.

Public offices
On February 4, 1994, Laermann was appointed Federal Minister for Education and Science as the successor to the resigned Rainer Ortleb . After the federal election in 1994 , in which the FDP lost votes, "his" ministry became part of the newly founded "future ministry" for education, science, research and technology under the direction of Jürgen Rüttgers , so that Laermann returned on November 17, 1994 left the federal government .
Other engagement
From 1984 to 2011 he was a member, at times deputy chairman, of the board of trustees of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom. From 1997 to 2011 he was chairman of the program committee of the board of trustees.
