Professor Niklas Medal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Professor Niklas Medal is the highest award that the German Ministry of Food and Agriculture has to award. The medal bears the name of the first Minister of Agriculture of the Federal Republic of Germany, Wilhelm Niklas .

The Professor Niklas Medal, which is awarded in gold or silver, is intended to honor people who have made particular contributions to food and agriculture.

As the first Minister of Agriculture in the young Federal Republic of Germany, he considered food security and the increase in food production to be central issues in German agriculture. The first talks about a new European agricultural community, which were greeted with great skepticism, also took place during Niklas' term of office.
