Helmut Born

Helmut Born (born November 3, 1948 in Berghausen , Wittgensteiner Land ) was General Secretary of the German Farmers' Association (DBV).

Life

After studying agricultural sciences at the Rheinische-Friedrich-Wilhelms University , he stayed at the university and completed a doctorate in Bonn (dissertation structural planning for slaughterhouses and other processing companies for agricultural products. 1977). Shortly afterwards he switched to the German Farmers' Association .

From May 1978, Helmut Born started working as a personal advisor to President Constantin Heereman von Zuydtwyck at DBV. In January 1982 he was promoted to deputy general secretary. Since October 1991 he has held the position of General Secretary and heads the business of the German Farmers' Association in the House of Agriculture and Food in Berlin . In 2013 he celebrated his 35th anniversary with the company and during this time accompanied three presidents of the association as general secretary.

In addition to his function at the Farmers' Union, Born also held other offices. Among other things, he is a member of the administrative board of Landwirtschaftliche Rentenbank , board member of the German Cultural Landscape Foundation , supervisory board member of Land-Data and was a member of the bioeconomy council until 2010 (now integrated into Acatech ). From 1982 to 1991 he headed the German-Polish working group on agriculture and agriculture of the Federal Ministry of Economics.

Born is married and has two children.

Awards

  • In 2010 Born was awarded the Albrecht Daniel Thaer Medal from the Humboldt University in Berlin for his services as a supporter of agricultural research and agricultural sciences.
  • In October 2013 Born was awarded the Professor Niklas Medal by the Minister of Food and Agriculture .

  • 2017: Ordre du Mérite agricole (Order of French Agricultural Merit) at officer level
