Bioeconomy Council

The Bioeconomy Council (BÖR) (previously the Bioeconomy Research and Technology Council ) was set up in 2009 by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV) as an independent advisory body for the German Federal Government . In the first work phase between 2009 and 2012, five reports, seven recommendations and one expert opinion were drawn up.

After the first bioeconomy council ended its work on schedule in spring 2012, a new body under the same name was appointed by the federal government in August 2012, which started its work in September 2012. Since then, the Berlin office has been part of BIOCOM AG .

The goal of the federal government is to enable a structural change from a petroleum to a bio-based industry through research and innovation. This is associated with great opportunities for growth and employment. The Bioeconomy Council fulfills an important advisory function on this path to a bio-based economy. With their expertise, the 17 members of the committee cover the subject of knowledge-based bioeconomy in all its content, look for ways to find sustainable solutions and place their findings in a global context.

The members of the Bioeconomy Council are experts from the fields of economy, science and society; some have been on the Council since 2009. The bioeconomy council is chaired by Christine Lang , consultant for microbial applications at Organobalance GmbH, and Joachim von Braun , director of the Center for Development Research at the University of Bonn .
