Ulrich Hamm

Ulrich Hamm (* 1952 ) is a German agricultural economist and expert in food marketing . Since 2003 he has held a professorship for agricultural and food marketing at the University of Kassel (department " Organic Agricultural Sciences " at the Witzenhausen location). Since 2010 he has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for Biodiversity and Genetic Resources of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture . From 2012 to 2019 he was also a member of the Federal Government's Bioeconomy Council . He has presented numerous papers on agricultural and food marketing, especially for ecological products and "ethically justifiable" consumption.

Life

Between 1973 and 1978, Hamm studied agricultural economics at the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart. In 1983 he received his doctorate in Stuttgart with a thesis on long-term forecasts for agricultural markets. In 1990 he also completed his habilitation in Hohenheim with a paper on the basics of marketing for agricultural companies. From 1991 to 1993 he was senior assistant (C2) at the University of Hohenheim, where he also held teaching positions at the University of Leipzig (1991), and from 1991 to 1992 also a teaching position at the Martin Luther University in Halle. From 1993 to 2003 he was C3 professor for "Agricultural Market Studies and Agricultural Marketing" at the University of Applied Sciences in Neubrandenburg . In 2003 he followed the call of the University of Kassel.

Hamm has presented numerous papers on marketing and the conditions for consuming organically produced food. In addition to his activities as a university lecturer in Neubrandenburg, he was also managing director and previously owner of management consultancies: 1999 to 2004 main partner and managing director of "M & M, Marketing and Management Consulting Company for the Agricultural and Food Industry mbH", Neubrandenburg, and from 1995 to 2000 owner of Company "HACon, Hamm Agrar Consult".
