Reinhard Huettl
Reinhard F. Hüttl (born January 1, 1957 in Regensburg ) is a German forest and soil scientist and has been head of the Geo Research Center Potsdam (today: Deutsches GeoForschungsZentrum ), an institute of the Helmholtz Association, since 2007 . Furthermore, he holds numerous offices in committees of scientific self-administration and is a member of several scientific academies.
Life
From 1978 to 1983, Hüttl studied forestry and soil sciences at the Albert Ludwigs University in Freiburg im Breisgau and at the Oregon State University . From 1984 to 1985 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Soil Science at the University of Freiburg, where he received his doctorate in 1986 .
From 1986 to 1992 he was head of the international research department at the mining company Kali und Salz in Kassel, at the same time he was a habilitation candidate at the University of Freiburg, where he completed his habilitation in 1991.
After a substitute professorship in Hawaii (1990–1991), he was head of the Institute for Forest Ecology at the Center for Agricultural Landscape and Land Use Research (ZALF) in Eberswalde from 1992 to 1995 . Since January 1993 he has held the chair for soil protection and recultivation at the Brandenburg Technical University (BTU) in Cottbus. From 1993 to 2000 he was vice president of this university.
From 1996 to 2000 he was a member of the Advisory Council for Environmental Issues .
Since 1995 he has been a full member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences (BBAW), and since 2006 a member of the Royal Swedish Academy for Agriculture and Forestry and the Austrian Academy of Sciences . In 2011 he was accepted as a full member of the Academia Europaea . From 2000 to 2006 he was a member of the Science Council , from 2003 chairman of the Scientific Commission of the Council.
From October 2008 to February 2017 he was one of two presidents of acatech - German Academy of Science and Engineering. From 2005 to 2008 he was Vice President of the Academy and has held this office again since February 2017. Since March 2011, Hüttl has been a member of the ethics committee for a secure energy supply . Hüttl has been a member of the Bioeconomy Council (BÖR) since 2009 and was its chairman from 2009 to 2012.
He is a member of the BMW Group's Supervisory Board .
