Hans von der Goltz

Hans Graf von der Goltz (born September 22, 1926 in Stettin ; † May 28, 2018 ) was a German lawyer , manager , entrepreneur , writer and sculptor .

Life

Hans Graf von der Goltz was the son of the lawyer Rüdiger von der Goltz . He grew up in Berlin and on the Ammersee . He completed his law studies at the University of Munich with the Great State Examination . From 1951 he worked as an economic manager: first as an authorized signatory for a company in the credit insurance industry and from 1956 to 1959 in the United States for the International Finance Corporation . From 1959 he was a general representative of the Klöckner & Co company in Duisburg , which he managed from 1968.

In 1971 he was appointed to the management of the Quandt Holding by the major industrialist Herbert Quandt as “personal general representative ” . In 1982, after Quandt's death, von der Goltz also acted as his executor and managed the Quandt Group together with Eberhard von Heusinger .

In connection with his work for the Quandt family , Goltz joined the management board of Altana AG as deputy chairman in 1977 , was its chairman from 1980 and moved to its supervisory board as chairman from 1985 to 1990 and remained deputy chairman of the committee until 1996. He was also Chairman of the Board of Varta AG until 1979 and Chairman of the Supervisory Board at BMW until 1993 ; he belonged u. a. also on the supervisory boards of Dresdner Bank and the Gerling insurance group. From 1997 he lived in retirement.

In addition to his entrepreneurial activity, Hans von der Goltz devoted himself to artistic activities from an early age. From the 1980s onwards, in addition to personal memoirs , he published a number of novels in which he partly processed his experience as a manager.

Goltz died on May 28, 2018 at the age of 91 and was buried in the forest cemetery in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe .
