Joachim Milberg (born April 10, 1943 in Verl , Westphalia ) is a German engineer and manager .

biography

Milberg grew up on a farm in Sennestadt , now a district of Bielefeld . In addition to traditional agriculture, his parents also ran a coal and wood industry. From 1953 to 1959 Milberg attended secondary school, from 1959 to 1962 he trained as a machine fitter at Gildemeister AG , not far from his home. From 1962 to 1965 he studied production engineering at the State Engineering School in Bielefeld. From 1966 to 1969 he studied manufacturing engineering at the Technical University of Berlin as a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation . 1970 to 1972 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Machine Tools and Manufacturing Technology at the Technical University of Berlin ( Günter Spur ). In 1971 he received his doctorate in engineering ( Dr.-Ing. ) With the thesis analytical and experimental investigations on the stability limit in turning .

In 1972 he returned to Gildemeister as a manager. From 1978 to 1981 he was head of the automatic lathes division . In 1981 he was appointed full professor for machine tools and business administration at the Technical University of Munich ( Institute for machine tools and business administration ). In 1986 he founded the Prof. Dr.-Ing. Joachim Milberg Institute for Production Technology GmbH (ifp consulting), since then he's been a partner there. From 1991 to 1993 he was Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Munich.

In 1993 Milberg left the chair and until 1999 was a member of the board (responsible for production) of BMW AG, Munich. From 1999 to 2002 he was Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG. From May 2004 to May 2015 he was Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BMW AG.

Milberg has been an honorary professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen since July 2010 . Since March 2015 he has been chairman of the BMW Herbert Quandt Foundation's Board of Trustees .
