history

On the occasion of the company's 100th anniversary in 2016, BMW AG expanded its social commitment. Since then, the BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt and the Eberhard von Kuenheim Foundation of BMW AG have been pooling their activities with the aim of having an even greater global impact.

For this reason, the two foundations were merged in terms of personnel and operations in the BMW Herbert Quandt Foundation and the capital resources of the BMW Herbert Quandt Foundation were significantly improved. To take account of the increasing international orientation of the foundation, the foundation was renamed the BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt in 2017.

Herbert Quandt secured the independence of BMW in 1959 and thus laid the foundation for the successful development of the automobile group. In 1970 BMW AG established the BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt in recognition of his entrepreneurial achievements.

30 years later, BMW AG set up another corporate foundation, the Eberhard von Kuenheim Foundation, in honor of its long-time chairman of the executive board and supervisory board. This continues to support its own projects.

With its Responsible Leadership programs, global network and impact-oriented investments, the BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt wants to support the sustainable development goals of the United Nations Agenda 2030. The relationship between the founder and foundations is based on the “Ten Recommendations for Charitable Corporate Foundations” of the Federal Association of German Foundations.

Purposes and goals of the foundation

The BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt is non-profit and primarily implements its goals operationally. That is why it takes the initiative in developing and implementing programs itself. With its programs, the foundation aims to inspire executives around the world to assume their social responsibility in line with the sustainable development goals of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda.
