Bolko from Oetinger

Bolko von Oetinger (born February 27, 1943 in Berlin ) is a German political scientist and management consultant . From 1981 to 1992 he was head of the Boston Consulting Group in Germany. Since 2004 he has been honorary professor for strategic corporate planning at WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1962, Bolko von Oetinger did his military service as a reserve officer candidate at the Staatliche Oberrealschule Saarbrücken (award of the Scheffel Prize ) . He resigned as a lieutenant in the reserve.

From 1964 he studied political science (diploma) at the Otto Suhr Institute of the Free University of Berlin . Then he was a research assistant at the local John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies . In 1972 he was at Arnulf Baring with the dissertation The importance of the Western system for the foreign policy of the grand coalition with special reference to the three Western powers for Dr. rer. pole. PhD. As a Harkness Fellow, he studied at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and earned an MBA in 1974 .

In 1974, while still in the USA, he became a management consultant for the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and later worked for BCG in Paris. In 1981 he became head of the company in Germany. He held this position until 1991. At the same time, he was a member of the BCG global governing body from 1983 to 1995. From 1994 to 1997 he was in charge of global marketing for the BCG Group. In 1998 he was one of the founders of the BCG Strategy Institute, of which he was director until 2008.

He has been a lecturer since 1998 and an honorary professor for strategic corporate planning at WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management in Vallendar since 2003 . He has also been a member of the advisory board of the Stanford Graduate School of Business since 1999, a member of the board of trustees of the Haus der Kunst in Munich and was chairman of the board of trustees of the Eberhard von Kuenheim Foundation and is deputy chairman of the BMW Herbert Quandt Foundation . He gave several strategy books a. a. to Carl von Clausewitz .

In 2011 he received the monument award from the Hypo-Kulturstiftung (together with his late wife Marie Luise Else Anne Marie Fürer von Haimendorf ). He has three children and lives in Munich.
