Christopher Bassford (born July 22, 1953 in San Diego , California ) is an American officer ( captain ) of the United States Army , military historian and security advisor . He was from 1999 to 2012 Professor of Strategy at the National War College of the National Defense University . Since 2012 he has been Professor of International Security Policy at the College of International Security Affairs.

Life

Christopher Bassford studied history at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg (Tema: Tactical Nuclear Weapons: An Introduction for the General Reader , Bachelor of Arts, 1978) and the history of diplomacy with John Lewis Gaddis at Ohio University in Athens (Master of Arts , 1981). At Ohio University, he completed the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). From 1981 to 1986 he was stationed as an artillery officer in the United States Army in South Korea (1982/83) and Germany (1983-1986). His Ph.D. he made 1991 in Modern History with Gunther E. Rothenberg (1923-2004) at Purdue University in West Lafayette.

From 1992 to 1994 he taught military theory at the Marine Corps War College at Quantico. He was an adjunct professor of state policy at the United States Army War College in Carlisle from 1994 to 1996 . From 1999 to 2012 he was Professor of Strategy at the National War College of the National Defense University in Washington, DC He then moved to the College of International Security Affairs in Washington, DC / Fort Bragg as Professor of International Security Policy . He does extensive research on the Prussian military theorist Carl von Clausewitz and is an analyst for the United States Marine Corps .
