from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Wolliner Greif was a side paddle steamer that operated as a passenger ship in the seaside resort service to Usedom , Wollin and Rügen .

The ship

The ship was 1864/65 with the hull number 19 on the shipyard of W & Holberg in Grabow for JF Braeunlich from Stettin built. It was 39.68 m long and 4.92 m wide (excluding the paddle wheels ), the draft was 2.33 m. The ship displaced 21 tons . A single expansion steam engine with 50 hp drove the two paddle wheels. The crew consisted of eight men, the passenger capacity was 250 people.

career

The Wolliner Greif began his service for JF Braeunlich in 1865 in bathing traffic from Stettin via Swinoujscie to the Baltic seaside resorts on Usedom and Wollin , but was sold to Friedrich David Mantey in Stettin after just a few years. As a result, its owner changed several times. In 1875 the ship went to the lime burner and landowner Franz Küster in Kalkofen on Wollin, and in 1886 to Robert Meyer in Stettin. In the meantime it had been re-measured in 1881 with 94 GRT and 63 NRT. A second re-measurement was carried out after the conversion and installation of a new compound steam engine of 190 hp in 1901, when the ship was registered with 95 GRT and 44 NRT. In 1902 there was another change of ownership to P. Friers in Swinoujscie and in 1903 the ship was resold to A. Dinse and M. Galitz in Crampas on Rügen , with the ship being renamed Arkona . Dinse had changing business partners in the following ten years, so that Arkona from 1905 for A. Dinse, M. Galitz and J. Vathje in Pansevitz , from 1908 for C. Galitz, in Sassnitz and from 1913 for C. Galitz and A. Dinse drove in Sassnitz.

Whereabouts

In 1918 the ship was sold to the shipping company W. Kunstmann in Stettin, who renamed it Greifswald and used it as a tug . In 1919 it came back to Rügen to the Saßnitz steamship company . In 1922 the ship was sold to Sweden , where it ran aground in 1924. His whereabouts afterwards are not known.
