The time capsule was walled in during the laying of the foundation stone for the new bell tower of the parish church of St. Nikolaus in Mainz-Mombach by the Mainz vicar general, Prelate Dietmar Giebelmann.

Dietmar Giebelmann (born September 17, 1946 in Bad Honnef ) is a Roman Catholic priest . He was vicar general from 2003 to 2016 and episcopal vicar in the diocese of Mainz from August to December 2017 .

Life

Giebelmann attended the Johannes-Gymnasium Lahnstein , where he passed his Abitur, and then entered the Mainz seminary . He studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . On 10 July 1971 he received in Mainz the priesthood by Bishop Hermann Volk . He then worked as a chaplain in St. Pankratius (Offenbach-Bürgel) and St. Ludwig (Darmstadt) . From 1976 to 1983 Giebelmann was pastor in the parish of Sankt Gallus in Urberach , then he took over the parish of St. Josef in Neu-Isenburg in the Dreieich dean's office .

Dietmar Giebelmann was elected Dean of Dreieich by the Dean's Conference in 1989 and confirmed in office in 1994. After he was elected secretary of the conference of deans in 1995, he was appointed to the episcopal ordinariate shortly afterwards . Bishop Karl Lehmann appointed him on October 1, 1996 as head of personnel and advisor for religious in the diocese of Mainz. In the same year Giebelmann became a member of the Spiritual Council and Honorary Cathedral Chapter and a year later resident Cathedral Chapter of the Mainz Cathedral Chapter .

In 1998, Pope John Paul II made Giebelmann a papal honorary prelate . Karl Cardinal Lehmann appointed him Vicar General of the Diocese of Mainz in 2003 . When the Sedis vacancy in the diocese of Mainz occurred after the retirement of Bishop Karl Lehmann, he was elected diocesan administrator by the Mainz cathedral chapter on May 17, 2016 . He held this office until the episcopal ordination of the new Mainz Bishop Peter Kohlgraf on August 27, 2017.

On August 30, 2017, Bishop Kohlgraf appointed Giebelmann Episcopal Vicar for the Pastoral Council as well as the Foundations Office and the Migration and Integration Office. On November 10, 2017, with effect from January 1, 2018, he resigned from all offices and duties due to differing views on the direction of the diocese. The Mainz Bishop Peter Kohlgraf has accepted the resignation.

Dietmar Giebelmann is committed to numerous social projects and the Christians in the Holy Land . He is a member of the German Association of the Holy Land . In 2008 he was appointed by Cardinal Grand Master John Patrick Cardinal Foley as Commander of the Papal Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem and invested in Cologne Cathedral on May 17, 2008 by Reinhard Marx , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy . He is the Prior of the Mainz Commandery of the Papal Lay Order.
