List of Vicars General in Mainz

The vicars general of the archbishopric were appointed by the archbishop from the Mainz cathedral chapter . The first vicars general were appointed as early as the 14th century. The spiritual diocese administration was separated from the administration of the archbishopric in the 1650s . Since then, the Vicariate General has existed as an independent authority. Before that, only a few vicars general were known in the archdiocese. After the fall of the archbishopric at the beginning of the 19th century, the diocese with the circumscription bull Provida solersque of Pope Pius VI. rewritten and rewritten.
