Martin Luley

Martin Luley (born November 25, 1925 in Wattenheim , now Biblis ; † November 27, 2006 ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman . He was vicar general in the diocese of Mainz and apostolic protonotary .

Life

Martin Luley attended high school in Worms and was drafted into the Wehrmacht in 1943. In 1945, towards the end of the Second World War , he was taken prisoner by the Soviets and had to work as a forced laborer in the mines in the coal basin on the Don and Donets .

After returning home, he graduated from high school in 1947, entered the Mainz seminary and studied Catholic theology . In 1953 he was ordained a priest by Bishop Albert Stohr . He then worked as a chaplain in Gau-Algesheim, Mühlheim-Dietesheim, Langen and Heppenheim. From 1959 to 1964 he was diocesan youth pastor of the diocese of Mainz and from 1964 to 1973 pastor in the parish of Sankt Thomas More in Gießen , from 1970 dean in the dean's office in Gießen.

From 1973 to 1996 he was Vicar General of the Diocese of Mainz , almost ten years for Cardinal Hermann Volk and 13 years for Cardinal Karl Lehmann . In 1977 he became cathedral chapter and was an active member of the Mainz cathedral chapter for 22 years . In 1981 he was appointed papal honorary prelate and in 1996 apostolic protonotary . He was the senior vicar general in Germany.

From 1996 to 2001 he was episcopal vicar responsible for the universal church tasks of the diocese, such as the diocese's representative for the Bonifatiuswerk and for Renovabis .

Honors

Because of his great commitment to the church's aid to Romania, Martin Luley was honored in 2001 with an honorary doctorate from the Greek Catholic Faculty of the Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj (University of Cluj) , which is automatically associated with the title of associate professor . In addition, he became honorary cathedral chapter of the cathedral chapters in Katowice , Łomża and Tarnów in Poland, Alba Iulia and Maramuresch in Romania and Varaždin in Croatia.

In 2005 he was honored with the honor of being a citizen of the city for founding and promoting charitable initiatives and institutions in the Romanian industrial city of Brașov (Kronstadt) .

Luley was also the recipient of the Federal Cross of Merit First Class of the Federal Republic of Germany .

Since 1952 he was a member of the Catholic student association VKDSt Hasso-Rhenania Mainz in the CV .
