Georg Eckl (engineer)

Georg Eckl (born March 4, 1857 in Eisendorf , Egerland , † March 22, 1934 in Linz ) was an Austrian railway engineer. From 1909 to 1913 he was a member of the Upper Austrian Landtag ( DNP ).

Life

Georg Eckl came from a potter family from the Egerland. He attended elementary and secondary school in Taus and Budweis and then moved to Vienna to attend the Technical University . After he had done his military service and a year of service as a volunteer, he worked as an engineer for the Franz-Josefs-Bahn from 1881 . He was assigned to the Budweis railway maintenance section and worked on the construction of the central heating system there. In 1887 he switched to the central railway workshop in Linz as construction manager, and in 1892 he was promoted to chairman of the Enns railway maintenance section . His areas of responsibility included repairs after the floods in 1897 and 1899, the collapse of the railway bridge in Enns and the Mühlbach bridge in Kleinmünchen . In 1902 Eckl was transferred to the State Railway Directorate in Linz as a technician, where he worked on the project for the new station. In 1911 he took over the function of the head of department at the State Railway Directorate Linz and in 1913 rose to the position of Deputy Director of the State Railway Directorate. In 1919 Eckl retired with the title of government councilor. After that he was still active as a technical consultant for Austria Petroleum Industrie-AG from 1926 to 1931.

Politics and functions

Eckls was a member of the Linz municipal council for the DNP from 1904 to 1911 and also served as vice mayor of Enns from 1906 to 1911 . Between September 21, 1909 and May 1913, he was also a member of the Upper Austrian Landtag as representative for cities and industrial locations . After the First World War he represented his party again in the Linz municipal council from 1919 to 1923. He was also President of the Association of Engineers of the Austrian State Railways, Chairman of the Beekeeping Association and President of the State Beekeeping Association. Furthermore, from 1897 to 1903 he was the second chairman of the “Lauriacum” museum association in Enns.

Private

Eckl was married to Theresia Koch from Budweis , daughter of the high school director, and had two daughters, including the painter Vilma Eckl .
