Horst Krumbach (born August 20, 1964 in Aachen ) is the founder of the “Generationsbrücke Deutschland” and one of the founders of care concepts that unite the generations between nursing home residents and children and young people in Germany.

Life

Krumbach grew up in Aachen and after graduating from high school initially did his military service in the staff service of the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn. Instead of studying, he then decided to pursue a career as a banker . After more than ten years in managerial positions, he felt an increasing alienation, which led to a new beginning in the social environment. In 1996 he began working in the “Marienheim” nursing home of the Catholic parish of St. Donatus in Aachen . In 2004 he took over the management and was appointed to the board of the Catholic Foundation Marienheim Aachen-Brand on January 1st, 2010. This is also the sponsor of the “Generationsbrücke Deutschland”, which he also represents as a board member. Krumbach is married and lives with his wife in Aachen.

The “Generationsbrücke Deutschland” is the first intergenerational social enterprise in Germany. She initiates, guides and accompanies regular, long-term encounters between residents of geriatric care facilities on the one hand and kindergarten and school children / young people on the other. The aim is to sustainably increase the quality of life and enjoyment of everyone involved by working together.

In August 2012, Krumbach took part as an expert in the United Nations (UN) Open-ended Working Group on Aging in New York on behalf of the German Federal Government to present his intergenerational concept to the government representatives of the UN member states. Together with the former Federal Family Minister Ursula Lehr , he was a guest in a panel discussion at the citizens' festival of German President Joachim Gauck in Berlin in September 2012. In the same year, Chancellor Angela Merkel honored him in Berlin as the national winner of startsocial , a nationwide social competition under her patronage.

Krumbach is a member of the “Responsible Leaders Network” of the Berlin BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt . In 2014 he was accepted as a Fellow at Ashoka , an organization that supports social entrepreneurs in around 70 countries who are innovative, pragmatic and long-term for a significant, positive change in society. In December 2014, Krumbach received the German Engagement Prize in the focus category “Together of the Generations”.
