history
The German Engagement Prize was first awarded in 2009 as part of the “Giving gives.” Campaign with the aim of strengthening the culture of recognition for voluntary engagement in Germany. Dedicated people, organizations and companies as well as communities promoting engagement could be suggested for the award by other people or organizations.
From 2010 to 2014 the prize was awarded in the categories “Politics & Administration”, “Economy”, “Non-Profit Third Sector”, “Individual” “Audience Award” and an annually changing focus category.
With a further development of the award from 2015 to become the umbrella award for voluntary engagement, the German Engagement Award will focus on the existing variety of awards for voluntary engagement. Through the cooperation with the organizers of the numerous engagement and citizen prizes, the culture of recognition for voluntary engagement is to be strengthened all year round.
