The social hero e. V. is a registered, non-profit association with its headquarters in Berlin . He organizes a network of volunteers who work for social justice through various campaigns . The association finances itself primarily through participation in competitions and donations from foundations or private donors. The initiative has received several national and international awards since 2008.

aims

The aim of the association is to make social action attractive and visible. He wants to arouse awareness of social grievances, sensitize people to social problems and show options for action instead of arousing pity.

Projects

With the Pfandtastisch help project , where supermarket customers can donate deposit vouchers, more than 100,000 euros are collected annually, which are donated to the Berliner Tafel . Other aid projects are also supported by Pfandtastisch help . The project is active nationwide.

The Wheelmap.org project is an internet platform for wheelchair-accessible places. In the open database, volunteers can mark certain places (such as cafés, cinemas or other shops) as wheelchair accessible, partially wheelchair accessible or not wheelchair accessible with the help of a traffic light system. The project became known nationally through a TV commercial sponsored by Google , and smartphone users can also access apps for iOS and Android while on the move .

The GUTschein zum GUTsein project has existed since 2011 , in which you can give people who you have done something good a GUTschein to motivate them to do good things to others. The recipient can report the story of the voucher online on a specially set up website, which can be identified by a number printed on it. In this way, the path of the vouchers can be followed, and each voucher tells its own story, provided that all recipients put their story online.

At the Re: publica 2012 web conference in May 2012, the social heroes presented the BrokenLifts.org project . The aim of the project is to create a central platform on which visitors can find out about the operating status of elevators in public transport. Since November 2011, hourly elevator fault information from the Berlin S-Bahn and the Berlin Transport Company (BVG) has been called up and analyzed as a database . On October 8, 2014, a revised version of the service was presented in cooperation with the Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg , S-Bahn Berlin GmbH and Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe. The elevators report their operating status to the service, which displays the failed elevators on the project's website. In addition, defective elevators are also displayed in the VBB's online timetable information. For the time being, the project is regionally limited to the Berlin area, but the aim is to collect data across regions.

On August 16, 2012, the association, in collaboration with the Robert Bosch Foundation, made the Leidmedien.de project public. The project, which was developed in collaboration with several journalists, is aimed at reporters from the press, radio and other media and provides assistance on which idioms and empty phrases can be used without stigmatizing those affected . The aim is to sensitize journalists and the public to rethink common clichés and to check whether people with disabilities are reduced to their deficits and thus devalued. The social heroes emphasize that Leidmedien.de is not intended to teach, but rather to show new perspectives and provide assistance.

In cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), the SOZIALHELDEN eV organized an international mapping day on December 3, 2015 under the campaign name MapMyDay.org . People all over the world were called on to mark places on the Wheelmap that are wheelchair accessible on this day . The campaign was one of several worldwide actions on the occasion of the International Day of People with Disabilities . The aim was to collect data and to make people aware of accessibility. At the end of the multi-day campaign, over 20,000 new locations had been marked.
