Ali Dogan (born May 18, 1982 in Herford ) is a German SPD politician and from May 2013 to April 2015 was Deputy Chairman of the Federal Working Group on Migration and Diversity of the SPD. Since March 2017 he has been head of social affairs for the city of Sankt Augustin . Dogan was also chairman of the Migration and Diversity Working Group of the SPD North Rhine-Westphalia until May 2016 . As General Secretary of the Alevi Congregation in Germany ( Almanya Alevi Birlikleri Federasyonu , AABF), Dogan represented the second largest religious community among the religiously bound migrants of Turkish origin from 2012 to 2015.

Life

Ali Dogan studied law at Bielefeld University from 2002 to 2006 . He passed his 2nd state examination in 2009 and has been a fully qualified lawyer ever since. From July 2010 to May 2016, Dogan worked as a civil servant in the Ministry of Labor, Integration and Social Affairs of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia . Among other things, he was the personal advisor to the then State Secretary for Integration Zülfiye Kaykin .

Ali Dogan is married and has two children. He lived in Königswinter in southern North Rhine-Westphalia until December and since then in Sankt Augustin.

Political commitment

Dogan was a co-opted state board member of the SPD North Rhine-Westphalia until May 2016 . Before that he was a consultant for the regional association. From 2009 to 2011, Dogan was a member of the district council of Herford . There he chaired the Integration and Equal Opportunities Committee. He has been Head of Department for the city of Sankt Augustin since 2017 .

Volunteering

From November 2014 to November 2016, Dogan was Deputy Chairman of the Information and Documentation Center for Anti-Racism Work based in Düsseldorf. Here he campaigned for anti-racism work in children's and youth associations.

In 2011 and 2012, Ali Dogan was an honorary board member of the State Youth Association of North Rhine-Westphalia , where he also campaigned for the integration of associations of young people with a migration background into youth association work.

Between 2008 and 2011 he was active as an e-mentor for schools on the net . Dogan supports young people in their school / professional careers.

He has also been a member of the Workers' Welfare Association since 2012 .

As part of the Bertelsmann Foundation's leadership program for young migrants , Dogan was portrayed as one of twelve young people with a migration background in the book “Surrender is not my way”.

Ali Dogan was General Secretary of the Alevi Congregation in Germany until March 2015 . Before that, Dogan was the federal chairman of the Association of Alevi Young People in Germany from 2008 to 2010 . Dogan began his voluntary work within the Alevi community at the Alevi community Bünde und Umgebung eV, where he was chairman of the board from 2006 to 2009.

As a representative of the Alevi Congregation Germany eV, Dogan participated in the German Islam Conference 2013, which was chaired by Federal Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich . After the last session of the plenary session of the German Islam Conference, Dogan was critical of the chairmanship of Federal Interior Minister Friedrich. The task of the Islam Conference was "forced" on Friedrich, said Dogan, so that it was difficult to work with him. Dogan takes a critical stance towards the Islamist and extremist forces within the Muslims living in Germany. In an interview with the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger , he described the attitude that there were no problems within the Muslim communities as “lying” and stated that homophobia and anti-Semitism were also widespread in such circles .

Positions and opinions

Dogan is considered a critic of the Gülen movement , which was shaped by the Islamic mufti Fethullah Gülen , and of the current Islamic-conservative government in Turkey . At the beginning of 2013, Dogan criticized in an article in the daily newspaper Die Welt that the Turkish Prime Minister Erdoğan would “fight religious minorities”. In 2012 and 2013, Dogan registered several large rallies against the Turkish Prime Minister Erdoğan for the Alevi Community in Germany . At a demonstration organized by the Alevi community under Dogan against the awarding of a peace prize to Erdoğan, Dogan said in front of around 25,000 participants: “We do not feel represented by Erdoğan. He is a flawless anti-democrat who cannot get a price for humanism and straightforwardness. "

At another large rally organized by Dogan against the policies of the Turkish government on June 22, 2013 in Cologne on the Heumarkt, according to the police, around 30,000-40,000 protesters gathered at the registration of the Alevi community.

Awards

Ali Dogan won the Audience Award of the German Engagement Award in 2010 for his voluntary work in various non-governmental organizations . Dogan donated the prize money of 10,000.00 EUR to integration projects.
