The Andheri aid (own notation: ANDHERI HELP; by the end of 2016 Andheri-Hilfe Bonn eV ) is an organization of development cooperation . It emerged from a private initiative - founded by Rosi Gollmann - for needy children in Andheri near Bombay (now Mumbai ) and has been working as a non-profit organization since 1967. It supports around 100 projects and programs in the poor areas of India and Bangladesh . The association was awarded the donation seal by the German Central Institute for Social Issues .
history
In 1959 the Bonn religion teacher Rosi Gollmann became aware of the plight of Indian foundlings in an orphanage in Andheri through a newspaper article. To alleviate this, she and her students brought hundreds of parcels with essential items on the way. The main objective in the beginning was to secure the daily handful of rice for the approximately 800 children of the orphanage St. Catherine's Home in Andheri. In 1967 Rosi Gollmann founded this association together with a small group. Shortly afterwards, the approach changed from combating symptoms such as hunger and illness to questioning the causes and making changes to the roots: A development from purely charitable aid to partnership-based development cooperation . The focus of the projects has always been on supporting children from poor and underprivileged population groups.
In 2002 the Rosi-Gollmann-Andheri-Foundation was established to support the work of the association.
aims
The association strives to improve the economic, social and ecological situation as well as to protect the human rights of poor population groups in India and Bangladesh, regardless of their religion and caste. In order for this development to take place in the long term, great value is placed on helping people to help themselves. At the beginning of a new project, there is often the establishment of self-help groups, in which the members learn to question their own situation, analyze causes and find solutions. This can be a cooperative-organized seed store, a separate bank for women or vocational training for unemployed young people. Special target groups are children, women, socially disadvantaged families and village communities, indigenous groups and people who are on the fringes of society due to a disability.
Projects
In around 100 projects in India and Bangladesh, projects run by local partner organizations and self-help initiatives for poor and disadvantaged people are funded in accordance with the principle of helping people to help themselves. In a partnership-based dialogue with local organizations, projects in social work, education and health, and agricultural and village development are implemented. The core topics of Andheri Help are the following work areas:
- Strengthen rights
- Promote education
- Enable health
- Ensure independence
successes
The association was able to perform over 1.3 million eye operations. Today, ANDHERI HILFE reaches more than 700,000 people in more than 7,000 villages and slums.
50 years of Andheri Hilfe - your point against poverty and oppression
On May 5, 2017, the association was founded for the 50th time. That is why ANDHERI HILE is celebrating the 2017 anniversary with a campaign under the motto “Your point against poverty and oppression”. In the course of the high-profile campaign, people in Bonn, the region and all of Germany are increasingly made aware of the need in India and Bangladesh in order to find more supporters for the work of Andheri Hilfe and to bring about lasting changes. The Telekom Baskets Bonn , the Bonn Choir and the Lord Mayor of Bonn Ashok Sridharan are campaign ambassadors .
Your voice against poverty
The association is a co-sponsor of the “ Your voice against poverty” campaign , a joint campaign by the civil society organizations that are part of the Association for Development Policy and Humanitarian Aid of German Non- Governmental Organizations (VENRO).
