The Association for Development Policy and Humanitarian Aid of German Non-Governmental Organizations ( VENRO ) is the umbrella organization for development-policy non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Germany. The association was founded in 1995 as the Association of Development Policy of German Non-Governmental Organizations and has around 140 member organizations (as of November 2018). They come from private and church development cooperation , humanitarian aid as well as development education, public relations and lobbying work .
goals and tasks
The central purpose is to shape globalization justly , in particular to overcome global poverty . The association is committed to the realization of human rights and the preservation of the natural foundations of life.
According to its own statements, the association represents the interests of development NGOs vis-à-vis politics, strengthens the role of NGOs and civil society in development policy, represents the interests of developing countries and poor sections of the population and raises public awareness of development issues.
The association is a member of the European umbrella organization of development NGOs CONCORD .
Common rules of conduct
The member organizations must observe the association's own code of conduct transparency - organizational management - control, the VENRO code of development-related public relations and the association's own code of children's rights.
Your voice against poverty
Since 2005, the association, together with the artist Herbert Grönemeyer, has supported the " Your voice against poverty" campaign . With the project, the association campaigned for the timely implementation of the Millennium Development Goals . With the deadline and the adoption of new sustainable development goals , the campaign was discontinued at the end of 2015 after ten years.
