history

Südwind was founded in 1991 as a non-profit association in order to develop more competence in questions of the world economy and to put it in the service of poor and disadvantaged people. It was named after a quote from the American theologian Jim Wallis at the World Ecumenical Assembly in Seoul in 1990 : "Tomorrow it will be the south wind of justice and liberation that will loosen the oppressed from their chains."

In September 2014 the Südwind Institute moved from Siegburg to Bonn.

Edited topics

Südwind has the following main topics:

  • Women and the global economy: The working conditions of women around the world are examined and lobbying work is carried out to enforce social standards in the world trading system. Südwind is a co-sponsor of the Clean Clothes Campaign .
  • Socially responsible investments: Südwind examines what banks, insurance companies and funds do with investors' money and evaluates companies according to social and development policy criteria for ethical-ecological funds .
  • Development cooperation: With the critical monitoring of topics such as development finance and the effectiveness of development cooperation, the goal of economically, socially and ecologically sustainable development is worked towards.
  • Social standards in world trade: Globalization has increased the pressure on the majority of employees worldwide.
