Caritas International
Caritas international is a department of the German Caritas Association based in Freiburg im Breisgau . Oliver Müller, who has a doctorate in theology and political science, has been the director since autumn 2006.
The core mandate of the work is global emergency and disaster relief. In addition, the aid organization promotes social work in developing countries and the transition countries of Central and Eastern Europe. The aid is aimed at particularly disadvantaged population groups such as children and young people, old, sick and disabled people. The German Caritas was first active abroad during the famine in Soviet Russia 1921–1922 .
activity
In the event of natural disasters or violent conflicts abroad, Caritas Germany provides immediate aid and, after the acute phase, becomes active in reconstruction and disaster prevention. Caritas Germany also supports around 650 aid projects in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. The organization supports street children, former child soldiers and AIDS orphans, promotes the rehabilitation and inclusion of people with disabilities and offers home care for the elderly and the sick.

- Working with the local staff of the national Caritas organizations.
- Assistance should be in harmony with the culture and lifestyle of those affected; local opportunities and resources should be used; long-term dependencies should be avoided
Campaigns / Alliances
Caritas international works in the Action Alliance for Disaster Aid with the German Red Cross and the Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe : In the event of a disaster, the organizations turn to the media and the public to mobilize help. In addition, Caritas international cooperates with the Catholic aid organizations Misereor , Missio , Adveniat , Renovabis and the children's mission organization “Die Sternsinger” , is active as a member of the Association for Development Policy and Humanitarian Aid of German NGOs (VENRO) and supports the action alliance Landmine.de .
