HelpAge International is a development and humanitarian aid organization that claims the social, economic and cultural rights of old people. To this end, it supports exemplary projects to improve the living conditions of old people in developing and transition countries . These projects are designed to give them recognition, financial security, welfare and a life in dignity.

HelpAge International

The network brings together 127 legally independent organizations in over 77 countries. HelpAge International was founded in 1983 and is headquartered in London .

The project is financed from public funds and private donations. The largest institutional donors are the European Union and the British aid organization Help the Aged . The organization is an advisory member of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations .

Help Age Germany is a registered association based in Osnabrück , which was founded July 12, 2005 and is recognized as a non-profit organization. The main focus is on development project work. The association bears the donation seal of the DZI .

At the same time Help Age Germany tries to influence the elderly and development policy of the Federal Government and the European Union in a targeted manner in order to sensitize politics, economy and the population to the needs and interests of old people

Board and team

The members of HelpAge Germany eV come from all over Germany. There are development policy experts, social workers, teachers, lawyers, scientists and entrepreneurs. The members and the board of directors work mainly on a voluntary basis for the association. The members meet once or twice a year for the general assembly, at which the work of HelpAge is discussed and important directional decisions are made. The organization has 10 full-time employees in its office. The managing director is Lutz Hethey. The patron is the SPD politician and former Bremen mayor Henning Scherf . HelpAge Germany is also supported by the actress Hannelore Hoger , who is the patron of the "Every grandma counts" campaign.
