#ichbinhier is a Facebook group that takes action against hate speech and hate speech on the Internet . The aim of the group is to improve the discussion climate on Facebook.

method

Group members identify posts and comments that include abuse, abuse, and hate speech. These are shared in the group and thus made known to the other group members. The members use counterspeech , which means that they write comments that they classify as factual and respectful and like the corresponding posts and comments. The hashtag "#ichbinhier" is used.

history

The closed, i.e. not publicly visible, group was founded in December 2016 by Hannes Ley, a communications consultant from Hamburg, and has around 45,000 members (as of August 2019). The model of the German group is the Swedish group # jagärhär founded by the journalist Mina Dennert with the same objective, which has grown to 60,000 members within about seven months.

In February 2017, the group received a significant boost in public attention and support through corresponding press coverage. The group also receives support from celebrities, such as the German journalist and TV presenter Dunja Hayali .

In June 2017 the group received the Grimme Online Award . The reasoning states: “... The focus here is on serving society: everyone who uses the hashtag constructively is actively committed to a better culture of discussion and against hatred and agitation on the Internet. For the jury an award-worthy commitment. "

In 2019, the association was awarded the German Engagement Prize in the Strengthening Democracy category.
