Summer Ulrickson

Sommer Ulrickson (born September 9, 1973 in San Diego ) is an American choreographer and director .

Life

Ulrickson was born in California and studied dance, theater and performance there.

In 1998 she came to Berlin on a German Chancellor Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and has worked as a director and choreographer ever since.

In 1999 she co-founded the wee dance company and worked with Johann Kresnik at the Volksbühne , among others . She created numerous of her own choreographies and theater productions such as Writer's Block on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the book burning on Bebelplatz and in the Jewish Museum .

The Sophiensaele presented their pieces Remains , Ich dich auch , Jerusalem Syndrom , Creatures of Habit and 2012 Fear in Search of a Reason .

In the Freie Kammerspiele Magdeburg she developed an American night with the drama ensemble . Based on Chekhov's Three Sisters , she staged Yes Yes to Moscow at the Deutsches Theater Berlin .

In California, together with the Israeli composer Amos Elkana, the Hamlet adaptation After Hamlet was created, which was shown by the Foreign Office in Berlin (Temporary Art Hall).

Together with the composer Moritz Gagern she developed Lovesick for the Neukölln Opera . She also worked with Gagern on the production of Kurs: Liebe for the Globe Theater at the Schwäbisch Hall open-air theater .

In 2012 she choreographed Helmut Lachenmann's Mädchen mit die Schwefelhölzern for the season opening of the Deutsche Oper Berlin .

The piece NeverMind , developed by Ulrickson together with the neurologist Giovanni Frazzetto, will be shown in various German cities after its Berlin premiere, which is supported by the Schering Foundation .
