Gerhard Wilcke (Manager)

Gerhard Wilcke (born  October 3,  1907 in Berlin ; †  October 17,  1986 ) was a German lawyer and manager .

Born in Berlin, Wilcke passed his state examination in law in 1933. He then joined the criminal law department of the Prussian Ministry of Justice. From 1934 he worked as a lawyer and from 1940 to 1943 was a general agent and director of Schering AG . He then became an employee of the management of the Philips group. After the end of the war he was head of the central department in the Lower Saxony Ministry of Education for a few years . From 1951 he worked as a lawyer and notary in Frankfurt. In the early 1960s, he represented the interests of the Quandt Group at BMW as legal advisor and authorized representative and chaired the restructuring committee of BMW AG . From December 1960 to February 1965 he was deputy chairman of the supervisory board.

On April 1, 1965, he succeeded Karl-Heinz Sonne and became CEO of BMW AG. Under his leadership, BMW concentrated on the production of automobiles and motorcycles. The resurgence of BMW finally got going with the 1966 presented " Zero-Two " model . With the support of the Free State of Bavaria, Wilcke and his colleague on the board, Paul G. Hahnemann, organized the takeover of the two sites in Dingolfing and Landshut from the Lower Bavarian automobile manufacturer Hans Glas GmbH .

In 1969, while bathing in the Mediterranean Sea, Wilcke was thrown against a rock by a wave and suffered a back problem. Therefore, Wilcke resigned from his position on the board of directors on December 31, 1969 for health reasons. On January 1, 1970, Wilcke was followed by Eberhard von Kuenheim . From July 1972 to the end of August 1974, Wilcke returned to the BMW AG Supervisory Board.

Wilcke was the electoral consul of Chile . On June 9, 1969, he was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit.
