Oliver Zipse (born February 7, 1964 in Heidelberg ) is a German manager and CEO of BMW AG . There he was previously responsible for the production department.

Career

During his school days Zipse lived in Bensheim and later in the Schwanheim district of Bensheim . He graduated from high school in 1983 at the Old Electoral High School in Bensheim. He then studied computer science and mathematics from 1983 to 1985 at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City . In 1985 he continued his studies in Germany at the Technical University of Darmstadt in the field of "General Mechanical Engineering " and graduated in 1991 with the academic degree of Diplom-Ingenieur . From 1997 to 1999 he completed his Executive MBA with the Kellogg-WHU Executive MBA Program, which is a joint offer of the Kellogg School of Management in Evanston (Illinois) and the WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management in Vallendar .

Zipse has spent his entire professional life at BMW AG. He joined the company in 1991 as a trainee in development, technical planning and production. From 1992 to 1994 he worked as a project engineer in technology development. From 1994 to 2006 he held various management positions in development, production and production planning in Munich and South Africa. From 2007 to 2008 he was the plant manager in Mini -Werk Oxford . From 2009 to 2012 he was the head of technical planning before becoming the head of group planning and production strategy from 2012 to May 2015. On May 13, 2015, he was appointed to the Board of Management of BMW AG, succeeding the then Chairman of the Board of Management, Harald Krüger, as Board Member for Production . On August 16, 2019, Zipse took over the position of CEO of BMW AG from Harald Krüger.

Zipse is married to a Japanese woman. He has two grown sons. Zipse has three siblings. His brother Hendrik Zipse is a chemist and researches and teaches at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .
