The University of Cranfield (English: Cranfield University ) is a British university with campuses in Cranfield , Shrivenham in Oxfordshire and Silsoe in Bedfordshire .

history

The university was founded in 1946 as the College of Aeronautics at the Royal Air Force Air Force Base in Cranfield, 75 km northwest of London. In 1969 the Cranfield Institute of Technology was founded, later the National College of Agricultural Engineering in Silsoe and the Royal Military College of Science (RMCS) were incorporated. Since 1993 the university has been officially called Cranfield University .

The university is the only university in the UK to have its own airfield . This is used in the aerospace course and has a 1,800 meter long runway.

The university only offers postgraduate courses, postgraduate training, and research and teaching. In 2006 about 3,000 students were enrolled. The university is accredited according to EQUIS , AACSB and AMBA . Cranfield has a global alumni network of over 10,000 members. The current Rector is Sir John O'Reilly.

The Cranfield University School of Management's MBA program is one of the oldest in Europe and was ranked the 3rd best MBA program in the world by the Wall Street Journal in September 2009.
