Christine Lang (born December 23, 1957 in Bochum ) is a German microbiologist and entrepreneur .

Lang grew up with her brother Joachim in Bochum. From 1976 to 1981 she studied biology at the Ruhr University Bochum and the University of Sussex . In 1985 she received her doctorate. rer. nat. in biology in Bochum in the field of molecular genetics of fungi with a thesis on the topic: extrachromosomal in vitro genetics in fungi - chondrioma vectors in yeast . She then worked in industrial research at the Hüls Chemie Forschungsgesellschaft , where she set up the working group for genetics and molecular biology . In 1993 she moved to the Technical University of Berlin and completed her habilitation in microbiology and molecular genetics with Ulf Stahl . At the TU Berlin she is an adjunct professor for microbiology and molecular genetics and teaches genetics in biotechnology.

In 2001, Lang and Ulf Stahl founded Organobalance GmbH , a company specializing in microbial strain development. a. developed an active ingredient based on lactic acid bacteria against Helicobacter pylori . The Organobalance GmbH since September 2016 part of the Danish Novozymes A / S .

In 2010 she founded together with Bernd Wegener , the Organobalance Medical AG , today Belano Medical AG . On July 1, 2018, Lang gave up her long-term role as managing director of Organobalance-Novozymes Berlin . In 2019 she was appointed to the Management Board of Belano Medical AG .

Lang is involved in various associations: In the German Society for Chemical Technology and Biotechnology e. V. and in the German Industrial Association for Biotechnology (a professional association in the Association of the Chemical Industry ) she is a member of the board.

Since 2012, Christine Lang has been chairman of the German Federal Government's Bioeconomy Council, together with the agricultural economist Joachim von Braun , which advises the Federal Government on the further development of the bioeconomy in Germany . When the national research strategy expires in July 2019, the term of office of the Bioeconomy Council will also end.

Christine Lang has been President of the Association for General and Applied Microbiology since May 2019 . Christine Lang has been a member of the VAAM Advisory Board since 2013 as a representative of industrial microbiology.
