German Business Innovation Prize
The German Business Innovation Prize annually honors the most important scientific, technical, entrepreneurial and intellectual innovations in the German economy. Established in 1980 by Ernst Gloede , the prize is legally protected as the “First Innovation Prize in the World”. The patronage alternated between the Federal Minister of Education and Research and the Federal Minister of Economics .
From 1983 onwards, the award was announced together with Wirtschaftswoche in the categories of large companies , medium-sized companies and start-ups . The prize has been advertised together with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung since 2011 and expanded to include the innovative personnel concepts category .
Categories
category | conditions |
---|---|
Start-up | The company must not be older than 5 years (reference date January 1st). |
Middle class | older than 5 years; group-independent; Turnover <500 million euros; no more than 5000 employees |
Large corporations | larger than the middle class category |

Award
The award is presented to the winners during an annual gala night (in January - for the previous year) in the Alte Oper in Frankfurt am Main . It consists of a certificate and a sculpture designed by the artist Bernd Fischer as a challenge prize for one year. Each new award winner is engraved by name on this sculpture . In 2009 the Patent Award 2008 was presented for the first time during the event, which honors patents with great market potential.
The idea
The German Business Innovation Prize was initiated in 1980 by Ernst Gloede , today Honorary President of the Rhein-Main Business Club. The considerations that led to the foundation of this award were the largely lacking raw material resources in Germany and the resulting realization that Germany can remain competitive in global competition solely through constant research and further development of its technological and industrial patents, findings and constructions, i.e. through innovations can. The award is intended to attract the attention of the recognized innovation and thus contribute to its marketing and dissemination.
Committees, calls for proposals, participants and award winners
The announcement begins on the day the previous year's prize is awarded and ends on the first Friday in September of the year.

Remarks
- ↑ The hardened ultra-thin glass is scratch-resistant and bendable up to a radius of a few millimeters and shows no signs of fatigue when bent. It could be used e.g. B. in flexible smartphones and in fingerprint sensors, for which the thinnest and most robust cover possible is necessary. - ↑ Instead of using gears, the torque is converted using dynamized individual teeth that are guided along the internal teeth of a ring gear. Due to this principle, almost all teeth are involved in the meshing of the teeth.
