Marijn Dekkers

Marijn Emmanuel Johannes Dekkers (born September 22, 1957 in Tilburg ) is a Dutch - American manager and chemist . He was Chairman of the Board of Management of Bayer AG until April 2016 and has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Unilever since May 1, 2016 .

Life

Marijn Dekkers grew up as the youngest of three children of a businessman in Tilburg, the Netherlands. After attending the local schools St. Aloysius (elementary school) and St. Odulphus (Lyceum), he studied chemistry and chemical engineering at the universities of Nijmegen and Eindhoven and completed his studies with a doctorate under Derk Heikens . During this time he played tennis in the German league in Emmerich .

From 1985 he worked in various research departments of General Electric (GE) in the USA and the Netherlands. In 1988 he became head of research for GE's polymers division and subsequently held other leadership positions in various polymer divisions at GE.

In 1995 Dekkers moved to Allied Signal (later Honeywell International Inc.) and took over the management of various business areas. In 2000 he became Chief Operation Officer of Thermo Electron Corporation (later Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc.), a laboratory equipment company, and was promoted to Chief Executive Officer and President two years later .

On January 1, 2010, he was appointed to the Board of Management of Bayer AG and on October 1, 2010, replaced the previous Chairman of the Board of Management, Werner Wenning . Dekkers' contract ran until April 2016. He was also the head of Bayer Group company Bayer HealthCare until August 14, 2010 . On May 1, 2016, he became Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Unilever.

On December 3, 2013, in the context of a controversy surrounding the licensing of a drug manufactured by Bayer, Dekkers stated that it was "not developed for the Indian market, but for western patients who can afford it."

Dekkers is a Dutch and US citizen . He is married and lives with his wife Andra Moffett-Dekkers and their three daughters in Düsseldorf - Kaiserswerth .
